Glenferrie Updates
Seven Years Later
It has been seven years since Mario’s Coffee House, 666 Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn, shut its doors due to issues with the VicTrack-owned building. VicTrack has at last indicated they have completed water leak repairs and refurbishments at the premises, along with the neighbouring shop at 664. Commercial real estate agent, Gorman Kelly, indicated that shops at 645, 664 and 666 Glenferrie Rd “are currently under offer.” We look forward to these retail shops brightening up the dark heart of Glenferrie Rd again.
The Inn Is Out
The planned Novotel hotel for Glenferrie Rd has been scrapped. Instead APH Holding, the developer of the site at 852-858 Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn will construct over-sized luxury apartments containing premium amenities such as a swimming pool, day spa, sauna, gym and golf simulator. Construction is expected to commence late 2024 and is forecasted to be completed late 2025. APH Holding will be moving ahead with their Novotel development in Box Hill.
School Crossing
With children's road safety in mind, in February 2021 a local community member started a petition to review traffic and pedestrian use at the intersection of Glenferrie and Burwood Rds. Following this, Boroondara Council nominated the intersection as a school crossing, which was accepted by the Department of Transport and Planning. As a result, one school crossing supervisor has been assigned to the intersection from July 2023.
