Camberwell Art Show

This year marks the 56th annual Camberwell Art Show, which will be held online for the second year in a row.

The show is organised by the Camberwell Rotary Club to promote and encourage the artist community and raise funds for the rotary club’s local, regional, and international projects.

The Camberwell Rotary Club was gearing up to host the art show for another year at Swinburne University. Unfortunately, due to the circuit breaker lockdown and COVID-19 outbreaks in May-June, the club deemed the event too much of a risk and made the decision to move online. “Just one case would close us down and cause enormous inconvenience to the university and others.”

This year’s online show will feature over 1,000 artworks, all of which have been chosen by a selection panel made up of “professional artists who have been on the panel for several years and represent different artistic styles”, as well as one member of the rotary club who has been involved in the arts industry for more than 20 years.

Once all the artworks are selected, they are showcased for sale online and presented to a judging panel made up of three qualified persons from outside the rotary club. This year’s chief judge is Glenferrie’s own Marco Corsini from Melbourne Art Class (817b Glenferrie Road). The works will be judged on their performance in “the category of award that the club determines, in its discretion, the artwork satisfies”.

In this year’s show, there will be a number of award categories including best in show, best non-traditional work, best wildlife, judge’s special, and the City of Boroondara award for Boroondara artists where the winner will be given the opportunity to host an exhibition at the Hawthorn Arts Centre.

The art show can be accessed online at camberwellartshow.org.au and artworks will be available to view and purchase from 10 July until 1 August 2021.
