Lifestyle: 2022 Glenferrie Festival
Updated: Apr 20, 2022
After a hiatus, due to the risks and regulations surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Glenferrie Festival was successfully held on Sunday 27 March 2022.
From 11am - 5pm the street was filled with stalls from local and non-local traders and community groups; amusement rides, and street performers. There were a number of games and activities including basketball at Grill’d and a spin the wheel at Taco Bell both for the chance to win food and drink vouchers; life-size chess and checkers; table tennis, craft, and inflatable carnival activities. With the federal election on 21 May 2022, there were a number of political party stalls and some handing out free t-shirts and bags. Young kids and teenagers became political billboards, sporting their freebies.
The day was sunny and hot with many visitors staying until the very end of the day. With no tram operating along Glenferrie Road, from Burwood to Barkers Roads, and fewer stalls compared to previous years, there was a sense of space. The spread of the stalls and the openness of many of the stalls provided easy access to the shops behind. The crowd had space to disperse and the Glenferrie shop-fronts had more exposure, encouraging visitors to attend the stalls as well as in-store. A more open and inclusive feel to the festival.
See you in 2023!
