Naming of the Civic Space

The City of Boroondara has proposed to name the civic space at 350-352 Burwood Road, corner of Burwood and Glenferrie Roads, 'Beswicke Square' after John Beswicke (1847 - 1925).

John Beswicke was an architect who lived in Hawthorn and made a significant contribution to the architecture and visual streetscape of Hawthorn including the Hawthorn Town Hall, now Hawthorn Arts Centre, and some mansions for his family in Harcourt Street including 13 Harcourt Street and 1 Harcourt Street on the corner of Auburn Road and Harcourt Street.

The City of Boroondara has asked for public feedback on the name proposal at www.boroondara.vic.gov.au with the survey closing Friday 7 September. The feedback and a report on the outcome of the survey will be released before the end of 2018. Once finalised, the City of Boroondara will organise a ceremony to celebrate the new name.
